Getting around: Walking is the best way around to the numerous department stores, boutiques, restaurants, galleries, and other attractions of La Jolla. To go farther, the best choice is a rental car. Driving in the San Diego area frequently involves the use of freeways and in the downtown core, one-way streets. Once downtown, buses, trolleys, and Coaster commuter rail can be used for single fares of less than $5.
